10 Media Words

A = Anti Climax
This sis a point in a narrative, following the climax or emotional high point, which lets down or deflates the experience, leaving the audience with a sense of disappointment.
=When Trife dies in the end.

B = Buddy Movie
This is a film that focuses on the relationship between two characters.
=The movie is based on both Alisa and Trife.

C = Cliff Hanger
A text which ends with an-resolved dilemma.
=Trife's death is made un-clear.

D = Demonisation
Sensational media reporting that turns individuals or groups into folk devils and makes them the focus of moral manic.
=All of the youths are represented in negative ways and link to negative stereotypes.

E = Ellipsis
The removal of shortening of elements of a narrative to speed up the action.
= Instead of long separate scenes of everyone, when Katie commits suicide, we see split screens of all the different characters.

F = Femme Fatale
A female character who uses her sexuality, to achieve the ends she desires.
= Becky decides to use oral sex as a way to get money for shopping.

G = Gangster
Describes a film genre based around the activities of a criminal gang/s.
=Trevors uncle is a gangster who is trying to influence his nephew to also lead a life of crime.

H = Hero
The principle male or female protagonist in any narrative.
=This is Trife, as this is a main story which is based around him.

L = Low-budget Film
A film made with limited funds.
=There was no major production company behind Kidulthood, as there would be in a massive Hollywood movie such as 'American Pie.'

M = Male Gaze
Laura Mulvey's theory of what she saw as the Male P.O.V
= Becky and Alisa are seen as sex objects on screen to entertain the male audience
